Crazy Horse and Mt. Rushmore

Woke up to cool temps, rain and wind.  No rush to get going but finally decided to go to see Mt. Rushmore.  Didn't realize that in the low fog, the mountain top can't be seen.  So, we ventured on to Custer, a little western town and then to Crazy Horse Memorial.  Since you couldn't see the memorial either, we entered at a half price entry fee and drove in to see what it was all about.  While there, it stopped and started raining again and again but did clear enough to see the Indian head.

From there we decided to try to see Mt. Rushmore one more time.  By then, the fog had lifted and we were able to catch it from many different angles along Route 16A.  The best view was driving through a tunnel which framed the four faces perfectly.  Unfortunately, with cars waiting to go through the one lane bridge, there was no time to take a picture.  But, we did get many others.

From there, we drove through a park called Bear Country.  We saw Elk, Big Horned Sheep, Mountain Lions and Bears, up close and personal.

What a day it was!  In spite of ugly weather in the morning, it turned out to be an amazing day.
