Wow! What a day. Beautiful weather this morning as we took the ferry from Fisherman's Wharf to Alcatraz. It is a great tour that evokes a lot of eerie feelings and definitely makes you want to walk the straight and narrow and NEVER go to prison. The walk to the cell block is uphill similar to 13 stories. Very happy that we could do it. That is the reason we are doing the trip now instead of waiting until we no longer could.
A very pleasant surprise was viewing the last of the America's Cup races from atop the Alcatraz area. Then, we were heading back to the wharf on the ferry and actually watched the US cross the finish line from the top tier of the ferry. Congratulations to the US team! This city is humming with sailing fans plus the Oracle convention.
From there we took the Hop On, Hop Off trolley around the city. Washington Square, Chinatown, the Civic Center, Alamo Square and Union Square. Here we stopped for some lunch and a short walk.
Back on the HOHO to Haight Ashbury, Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, Golden Gate Bridge,
the Marine District and Cow Hollow. Next stop was Ghirardelli Square where we HAD to stop and have a Sea Salt Caramel Hot Cocoa. Hey, it was cold on that trolley.
After a short walk back to our hotel, we are in for the night. Tomorrow is another day.
